Monochromatic Mechanism

Monochromatic Mechanism in SOHO

Monochromatic Mechanism in SOHO

The arctic chilly months of winter force us New Yorkers to bundle up from head to toe, leaving our fashion sense a mystery. Wrapped up in thick coats, we look like clones promenading the concrete jungle everyday. Play up your wardrobe with what I term ‘Monochromatic Mechanism’. A monochromatic outfit singularly augments one hue. The best way to style this ‘fit is by combining various fabrics, from wools to cottons, and leather to suede. The uniform color is subtle, but the fabric contrast creates diversity. Accessorizing and adding metals spice up any monochromatic ensemble. My favorite monochrome outfit hues this winter are black, beige/camel, and navy.

Jeffrey Campbell’s Tilda: My Killer Closet Addition!

photo 2

No deliberation stood in the way of getting my hands on Jeffrey Campbell’s recent releases: Tilda Platforms in black leather. Exclusively available on nastygal.com, I ordered these bad boys last week and gave ‘em a whirl. With the comfort of a platform pump and the glam of silver metal features at the toe and ankle straps, these shoes are prepared to make a statement this season! Pair these with tattered, high-waisted denim shorts and a sheer blouse for a day look; flaunt them with a midi bodycon dress or asymmetrical chiffon skirt for a night look.

I can’t wait to wear these two-toned killers out. Of course, I took them for a mini test drive first!

The Tilda’s add a whole new meaning to the term cuffed up ;)

& I can already tell that they will put a touch of edginess to a bold, monochromatic ‘fit.

I’m excited to show you guys the ensemble I come up with.

Red Carpet Affair: Golden Globes 2013

When it comes to one of the most glamorous annual affairs, the Golden Globes are more about the Red Carpet looks than the award show itself. Nude and blush toned gowns clung to the stars, crimson-hued frocks popped in elegant silks, and provocative high-slits turned heads.

I spent my Sunday evening ogling at the fabulous ladies of Hollywood flaunt gorgeous dresses, ranging from cut-out fits to jewel encrusted gowns. However, there were many hits and misses. Even though everyone didn’t walk away with the treasured Golden Globe award, the following ladies were winners with their impeccable style.

ImageHayden Panettiere in a light blush Roberto Cavalli number. She perfects simple sophistication with this look.

J.Lo in a stunning embroidered lace Zuhair Murad number. Although she dons a showy dress, her styling is exquisite from the jewels to her one-sided Veronica Lake ‘do.

Lea Michele in an ivory Elie Saab number. She smolders in a light dress that off sets her tanned complexion and makes a statement with a high slit.

Eva Longoria in a black lace Emilio Pucci number. Settled against a black shade, her dress wows with both a front and back cut out and high slit on an elongated chiffon tail.

In ‘My’ Depths of Solitude…

i exist in the depths of solitude
pondering my true goal
trying 2 find peace of mind
and still preserve my soul
constantly yearning 2 be accepted
and from all receive respect
never comprising but sometimes risky
and that is my only regret
a young heart with an old soul
how can there be peace
how can i be in the depths of solitude
when there r 2 inside of me
this duo within me causes
the perfect oppurtunity
2 learn and live twice as fast
as those who accept simplicity

- Tupac Shakur

This is arguably one of my favorite poems. How can we live freely when constantly battling the duo or even multiplicity of emotions, desires, and fears within ourselves? But maybe we should just appease and accept these dualities because they enhance us to become more than a one-dimensional virtuous being. We can thrive and be greater because we possess a duo that necessitates an exponential increase of capabilities, ambitions, and accomplishments.

Défilé de Mode: NYC Uptown Fashion Week

Fashion showOn Thursday, December 6, 2012, New Yorkers followed the emerging fashion designer, Nelson Tavarez, uptown as he teamed up with Madeline Veriguete and Nicholas Velez to individually debut their ready-to-wear Spring 2013 collections. Urban chic city slickers watched the aesthetics of each collection at Negro Claro, an upbeat lounge that was transformed into a high-profile runway. Cascading into their seats were glamourous men and women donning retro, urban, hipster and vintage styles of the everyday Uptown New Yorker. As tribal house music swelled the ambience, smoke spilled throughout the room creating an exotic excitement.

viscose illusion.

@viscoseillusion

@viscoseillusion

Why viscose illusion?

Well… viscose is a textile that is extremely versatile. Viscose, short for viscose rayon, is used for almost any garment you can think of from dresses, lining, t-shirts to lingerie and even outerwear. Needless to say, the fibers of this soft fabric can construct almost any outfit. With a material as polytropic as me and encompassing of my penchant for fashion, what better noun to use than this.

Next… illusion. As a literary enthusiast, this word expresses my ideal that one’s perception of reality is in fact an illusion. Our beliefs are framed on what is visualized and how our minds interpret things. So we see paradise through our eyes.

Put those two words together and my versatile vision is born, giving you my observations and perspectives of beauty, fashion, literature, the arts, and more.

So I hope you enjoy what viscose illusion has to offer.

P.S. – the initials of Viscose Illusion are VI, or Roman numeral 6, which happens to be my birthdate as well as my favorite number. I thought this was pretty rad.

The Turkish Lover

Esmeralda Santiago achieves personal freedom through her künstlerroman, which depicts her deprecating relationship with… you guessed it, her Turkish lover. Following her trajectory from a naïve twenty-one year old to almost closing in on thirty, Santiago follows her heart – a heart that chooses a submissive lover, thirteen years her senior, rather than electing to sketch out her own bright future. Ditching her old school Puerto Rican family who immigrated to Brooklyn, New York, she couples with an equally old school Turk and they create a maze of lustful travels around the United States. Their pilgrimage from state to state echoes the instability that exists in their own relationship. She and the Turk oscillate between fights, arguments, demands, and at times vehement love making fused with affectionate proverbs.

Where does happiness lie?

Does it grow on a tree

Ripening for you to pick it?

Prime prompt prepared for you to consume it,

And become nourished by it?

Does happiness lie in a cloud

Suspended in a cotton candy sky?

Swelling ’til the hour it bursts and

Cascades over your face

To cleanse away the doldrums engulfing your being?

Where, oh, where does happiness lie?

Is it embedded between the sheets

Where he lies and she lies, tangled

In a fervent hot spell?

Does it lie in a current of electricity,

Jolting us deeper into euphoric bliss?

Where does happiness lie

in those times when we need it most?

Is it eclipsed by the apathy of life instructing it to evade

Detection rejection affection?

Where does happiness lie?

For if it objects to lie within us

Then, irrefutable, it lies resting,

Within an inactive dormancy.

Or, ultimately, the question begs

Not to be asked of its

Location situation destination.

Rather revel in the expanse of the

Deceptive nature of happiness

And question the fabrication that happiness lies here and there and nowhere at all.

In fact, the perjury of happiness poses a masquerade,

A fanciful disguise that it is part of the holy trinity:

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

The misconception lies in our thwarted attempts to

Persistently follow and chase this precedented ideal.

Perhaps, just maybe, the search is the lie

And all the while happiness was lying within us.
